  2. I purchased this laptop (Acer Aspire 5720Z) November 2007 and have had nothing but trouble since.

    - The computer overheats and shuts off randomly without warning. I cannot have the battery and the power cord plugged in at the same time, as the power pack on the cord begins to hum loudly. If I have just battery in as it heats up as well. If both are plugged in at the same time the entire underneath part of the laptop heats up and has melted off my Windows Key sticker, my serial number sticker and has turned the other ones black. The keyboard and to the left side of the keypad heat up to the point of burning skin after only 30 minutes of use.

    - Disc drive will not play any burned discs and they freeze after about 30 minutes of use, even though they will play in a regular DVD player, or another computer.

Overall I am completely unsatisfied with this laptop and would NOT recommend it to anyone! I am truly disappointed with Acer.

  4. I purchased this same laptop, and over a few weeks problems such as overheating emerged. Often we could smell burning but did not immediately trace the problem back to the laptop. WhenI had had it for just four weeks, I was using the laptop (attempting to play a burnt CD)when the computer began having the same ’shutting down’ problem. I gave up, leaving it plugged into the power for charging, however when I next used it, about thirty minutes later, the laptop was hot, and letting off electric shocks. We immediately turned it off, unplugged and pulled the battery out. Upon turning it around, I noticed the stickers had begun to show slight signs of burning. We immediately called up the store of purchase, who claimed it had nothing to do with them an we must contact ACER service. However, before we could the store called back to say they would replace the Laptop *with no persuasion on our part*. My parents went to pick the new laptop up for me, as I was at university. However, when I got home, I found the store had given me the next model up.. complete with better ’surround?’ sound etc, although the store listed it as being the same laptop… it was very odd.. hopefully new laptop doesnt have the same dangerous problems
