Linux: can it match up against Windows?

Category: News | October 16th, 2008

Linux on laptops and PC’s is no longer as complicated as it used to be, but the new problem is whether manufacturers of notebooks will actually offer Linux to the customer including both corporate clients and regular customers, and outside of any designated niches.

There is however one emerging bright light and that is the new class of netbooks. Low cost netbooks use Linux as one of several cost cutting moves, but even in that area the fight to sell Linux is still competitive and fierce.

Obviously, right now there is no way Linux will replace Windows in any significant percentage especially those markets where Windows already dominates. It will take more than just making Linux available to the public as a preloaded option to even place it on a even level with Windows, even in the notebook world.
