Low-end laptops bolster sinking PC market

Category: News | October 16th, 2008

With world economy the way it is many are turning to the cheap low end laptops rather than the more expensive high end jobs, and in doing so this move is actually bolstering what would otherwise become a soft PC industry, well that is according to industry analysts Gartner Inc.

Gartner Inc., analyst Mika Kitagawa, says: “In the North America market, the economic crunch created more interest in the sub-$500 segment. … At the same time, the global PC market finally felt the impact from the global economic downturn. The U.S. professional market experienced the biggest hit from the economic crunch. The U.S. home market saw definite softness in PC sales after a few quarters of strong growth.”

Gaining a strong shove with the mini notebooks hitting the market global PC shipments have reached 80.6 million machines in the 3rd quarter of this year which accounts for a 15 percent increase on the same quarter of 2007.
