Sony Recall Laptop Batteries, others will follow

Sony is recalling over 100,000 batteries manufacturer by Sony Energy Devices Corps due to fears over a fire hazard. It is thought that 14000 Toshiba laptops, 74,000 HP laptops and several thousand Lenovo, Acer and Dell laptops are to be affected by the Sony recall.
The Sony battery recall covers laptops sold between the years 2004 and 2005 and almost 2/3rds of these have been sold outside the Unites States. The decision by Sony to issue the recall was prompted by more than forty cases of overheating were reported.
Sony has placed the blame at poor raw material and changing factory settings. Although Sony has said this will not affect earnings significantly, and has issued an advisory for users to stop using the laptops as of immediately and request a free replacement battery.
