Apple says Macs now safe and removes antivirus note
Category: Apple, Laptop Brands, News | December 3rd, 2008

On Tuesday, Apple removed an old item from its support site which asked Mac users to use multiple antivirus utilities and have said the Mac is now safe and “out of the box.” Security experts, while pleased that Apple urges Mac users to install antivirus software, have recommended against it.
Spokesman for Apple, Bill Evans says: “We have removed the KnowledgeBase article because it was old and inaccurate.”
An Apple expert has speculated that Apple was simply removing a poorly worded note and probably wasn’t Apple’s intention to tell Mac users they require antivirus. However to some, Apples latest move will be seen as back-tracking and their motive for removing the notice still remains unclear as they didn’t replace it with an updated one.
