Geode chips no longer looked at by AMD
Category: News | January 29th, 2009

AMD has decided to concentrate on more mainstream chips due to the economic downturn; this in turn means Advanced Micro Devices will not allot time for researching the old Geode. Phil Hughes, spokesman for Advanced Micro Devices has announced they have no plans for a follow-on product for the AMD Geode LX product.
Basically what this means is if you were hoping AMD and the next generation Geode was going to give Intel and VIA a battle for the cash in the low cost laptop market, you are out of luck.
The AMD Geode used to be the staple chip within the original netbook arena, the Geode used to power the XO laptops maybe by One Laptop Per Child. But now that is at an end and no more Geode chips.
