Microsoft does not charge for downgrading but PC makers do

Having been hit by a lawsuit over software downgrading fees, Microsoft has issued a denial that they make no revenue when users downgrade from Windows Vista to the more popular older Windows XP. As I reported a couple of days ago, a Californian resident has filed a lawsuit over the $59.25 fee she was charged for downgrading to Windows XP.
Spokesman for Microsoft, David Bowermaster, stated in an email…“Microsoft does not charge or receive any additional royalty if a customer exercises those [downgrade] rights. Some customers may choose or need to obtain media or installation services from third parties to install the downgrade version.”
Apparently it’s not Microsoft that charge the user a fee to downgrade but it is the computer makers who do, for an example, Dell Inc adds an extra $20.00 to the price to downgrade a PC.
