The One Laptop pre Child program is to switch their XO laptop to a VIA processor in a new general hardware refresh. The 1.5 version of the XO laptop will still have the same industrial designs but will now utilise the new VIA processor.
Currently the OLPC OX is aimed at educational markets in developing countries and uses the AMD Geode processor and will now switch to the VIA C7-M processor, and XO generation 1.5 will arrive sometime in November.
This is a separate refresh from the “Gen 2.0” project where OLPC will switch to ARM based rather than x86 based processors, with the first OX2.0 launching early 2011.
