Read all about Linux kernel via Wikipedia

As most people know who use computers the Linux Kernel is an operating system kernel used by the Linux family and is one of the most prominent examples of free open source software.

The Linux Kernel was initially visualised and created by Linus Torvalds back in 1991, and is released under the GNU General Public License version 2 and propriety licenses and is developed by contributors.

Despite the limited functionality of early versions of Linux, Linux rapidly found users and developers who adopted the code for use with the new OS. You can read more on the Linux Kernel on Wikipedia.
