Maingear Titan 17 6-core laptop beast, pre-order now

Category: Laptop Brands | February 8th, 2012

Earlier today we informed readers about the powerful Clevo P270WM laptop and now we have news of another mighty beast, the updated Maingear Titan 17. The Titan 17 can now be configured up to an Intel desktop processor using a 6-core chip more usually seen in gaming desktops and yes, before you all ask, it’s available to pre-order now.

Maingear is going all out to impress with its Titan 17 and other configurations include an upgrade to up to 1.8TB of SSD. This is achieved through three slots each holding 600GB solid state drives. Alternatively purchasers can choose hard drive storage of 2.25GB. The Titan 17 also features a large 17.3-inch display, memory support of up to 32GB and can use the very latest Nvidia mobile graphics cards. As well as all this Titan 17 also has two USB 3.0 ports and two USB 2.0’s, HDMI 1.4a, FireWire, eSata port and a webcam.

It’s a hefty weight of 12.13 pounds or 5.5 kg including battery, exactly the same as the Clevo P270WM on that score then and dimensions are 16.5 x 2.2 x 11.3-inches. The starting price is $3,499 but if you want the whole caboodle, including the Core i7-3960X 6-core desktop chip mentioned earlier, 32GB of RAM, 1.8TB of SSD and more then it will cost you a mind-blowing $8,264. For more on this read here. Pre-orders are available now through Maingear here and those who pre-order the Titan 17 with Core i7-3960X processor and backlit keyboard will receive a free copy of Jagged Alliance: Back in Action and Batman: Arkham City for PC.

If you want to find out much more about the Intel core i7 3960X chip then head here for a full article on it. Shipping will begin in March. It has to be said that Maingear is making a big statement with the Titan 17 and wants to be seen as being ahead of the rest of the game and from what we’ve seen so far it may very well achieve that.

However ultimately the success of the Titan 17 comes down to you, the consumer, so we’d like to ask if you’d be willing to pay the premium price for top-notch specs, or maybe you think the price cannot be justified? Let us know by sending your comments.
