Category: News | May 28th, 2008

AMD are to Debut “Puma” Mobile Platform for Laptops at Computex Taipei 2008 which is great news and this is where these Puma platform for laptops will be announced officially, Computex is very near indeed and reports are showing that AMD and their new “Puma” platform for laptops will be released on June 3 which is the first day of Computex.
For those who know nothing or little about AMD Puma, basically in short terms it is a mobile platform for laptops that consists of Turion Ultra CPU where is codenamed Griffin and of course mobile variant of AMD’s 780G chipset (RS780M), WiFi modules (from Atheros, Broadcom, Marvell, Ralink) that are suitable and of the Mobility Radeon 3200 integrated graphics. These PUMA powered laptops will come in all factor forms for example 12.1″, 13.3″, 15.4″ and 17″ models plus will be featuring AMD’s discrete mobile GPUs like ATI Mobility Radeon 3450, 3650 and 3850.
Manufacturers will also be able to tweak around with SSD support, solid state drives however are expected to be pretty much out of reach for volume consumer and business markets (key targets for AMD’s “Puma” Platform). Does this mean that it could make the arrival of AMD’s 2009 Shrike mobile platform a little different like greater adoption of SSD devices, the availability and release dates of the Puma-powered laptops will be known after the official announcement.
