Asus Ebox

Now here’s a quick question for you, what is it that may compete against the Mac Mini, has a name which will remind everyone of an Xbox, and looks similar to a Wii gaming console? Any guesses? Well to save you from guessing too hard the answer is the new Eee PC desktop from Asus, and to be named the Ebox. The latest buzz in the industry is that Asus will be showing off the new Ebox at the Computex trade show which is being held in Taiwan and starts on the 3rd of June.

Asus’s $230.00 Eee PC lightweight laptop originally pulled in a great deal of attention, and since its debut has made significant ramped up production of the computer.

It is being said that the new Ebox (for some reason I keep typing Xbox) is to be sold as a standalone computer without any peripherals such as monitor or keyboard and such. Reportedly it will have a 160GB solid state (which means no moving parts) hard drive, either Linux or Windows XP operating system, and 2GB of RAM.

Unconfirmed reports have the Ebox measuring under 8.75 inches wide, 7 inches tall, and approximately just over an inch thick, and compared to the Mac Mini which is 6.5 x 6.5 x 2 inches.
As yet there is no pricing or availability on the Asus Ebox, but if you take into account the Eee PC laptops’ very cheap price of between $230.00 and $500.00, it should be safe to expect the Ebox to be somewhere in the same price area.
