Toshiba Equium A100-147 laptop battery problems

My Toshiba Equium A100-147 laptop will not charge it’s battery, if you run it on mains and then disconnect from the mains, the battery soon runs out. Is it worth trying a replacement battery or is it the laptop itself and if so can it be repaired.
