Sony confirms their new Vaio range of laptops

Category: Laptop Brands, Sony Vaio | July 15th, 2008

At last, after all the whispers, teasers and rumours, Sony has confirmed their new Vaio Z, FW, SR, and BZ laptops. All in this range share the same design language such as Intel Centrino 2 processors, particular configuration options and setup software that eradicate the trail ware, and packed with Blu-ray.

Take the Vaio Z for instance, 1 inch thick, 13.1 inch 16:9 form factor, 3.4 pounds in weight, HDMI drive and Blu-ray drive, NVIDIA 9300M graphics, options on SSD in a RAID configuration, keyboards are all of the isolated, raised key variety, which might remind people of the MacBook keyboard.

Sony’s 13.3 inch Vaio SR is Sony’s bid for the ultraportable market with a four pound form factor, multiple colour options, and supposedly aggressive price points, unfortunately though no Blu-ray. The 16.4 FW is much bigger and well suited for playing Blu-ray. While the 15.4 inch BZ stands firmly in the business class with Sony, with magnesium alloy casing and fancy security software, though Blu-ray is lacking.

As for pricing…$1000 gets you the BZ or FW, $1,400 gives you the SR, $1,750 nabs you the FW Premium, white if you can stump up $1,800 you can grab the Z, and with added SSD for $2,300. All should become available end July/early August.
