A bit of bad news I’m afraid, if you are an owner of the Sony Vaio TZ you will need to return the laptop due to a Sony recall. It appears the Sony Vaio TZ has a possibly dangerous malfunction, and this applies to all Sony Vaio TZ models sold between May 07 and July 08. There models are prone to overheating, and are eligible for repair.
At the moment this recall announcement cover Japan only and there is yet no news as to whether a further announcement is due to cover the rest of the world. However the whispers are that one US based Micro Centre has pulled all Sony Vaio TZ’s from its shelves.
Update: The voluntary recall for the US is VAIO VGN-TZ100 series, VGN-TZ200 series, VGN-TZ300 series and VGN-TZ2000 series sold between July 2007 and August 2008. There has also been a recall in the UK after is has been found over 200 TZ’z have already overheated globally.
