If you work in environments that are harsh like hot, humid and wet conditions then the Itonix GoBook XR 1 laptop is another great laptop that should be worth a thought, this is a very rugged laptop that can take rigorous punishment (no not the sort where you get a sledge hammer out) but you know conditions that normal laptops could not handle.

Recently we review the Dell Latitude ATG D620 which is another great rugged laptop but the Itonix GoBook XR 1 seems to be a contender worth thinking about seriously, the design is very good really not the best looking in the world but yet still very good. It has a handle fitted for easy to carry use plus the casing is made from a solid die cast magnesium shell (tough). To me it is a little bit bulky but if your working in a rough environment such as construction if the laptop does its job then who cares about the design to be honest.

It does weigh 3.1 kilograms which is not bad considering its bulkiness, and the size is 30 x 24.5 x 5cm (WxDxH), the screen size is 12.1 inch with XGA resolution oh and it has touch screen as well which is an added bonus saves using that crappy mouse pad. The Itonix GoBook XR 1 comes with two styluses’ which are located on both sides of the laptop to work the touch screen but you can you basically anything like your fingers.

The keyboard glows in the dark which is good for all those late workers plus the keyboard has a backlight function as well, so we have cover the outside really so what about the inside.

The GoBook XR-1 has an Intel Core Duo T2400 processor steaming along at 1.83 MHz with 512MB of random access memory which we think comes with 2GB (expandable), it also has an ATI Mobility Radeon X300 GPU (128MB). The laptops comes with either 40GB or 80GB hard drives if you ask for it plus has Intel Pro wireless Wi-Fi connection or you can have Bluetooth 1.2 GPRS/EDGE/3G/HSDPA and GPS modules.

Everything on this laptop is protected with special coatings and plastics for the rigorous usage even all the connection sockets at the back, there is a Type II PC Card slot and a DVD-RW/CD-RW drive plus SmartCard slot.
You will get approx 4 to 6 hours battery life with the normal standard battery or you can have the 3,800mAh battery and get 5 to 7 hours. Prices are approx £2160.

All in all the Itonix GoBook XR 1 laptop is very good indeed, it works well and runs very nicely and smooth and the bit about taking punishment (rigorous use is spot on) it will take water spills, dust, vibration and much more.

I give it an 8 of 10 which is very good.
